Starting to draw as an adult
2026-03-07
Many adults arrive at the studio carrying an old sentence from school: “I can't draw.” It usually came from a rushed lesson, a harsh comment, or the feeling that everyone else finished faster.
In practice, learning to draw as an adult is less about talent and more about setting up the right conditions. A clear table, decent materials, and a calm, non-judgemental atmosphere do most of the heavy lifting.
What we focus on
- Simple shapes — mugs, fruit, plants, folded fabric
- Light and shadow — practising tone before worrying about detail
- Short studies — ten to twenty minutes, so nothing feels too precious
- Steady guidance — step-by-step demonstrations with space to ask questions
The aim is not to produce a masterpiece in a single evening. It is to get comfortable making marks, seeing tone and proportion more clearly, and discovering what subjects quietly interest you.
If you have been thinking about returning to art for years, consider this your invitation. One small drawing is enough to begin.
